Meaning of Culture and Cuisine Rendang

The origins traced rendang Sumatra , especially Minangkabau . For the people of Minang rendang already existed long ago and have become traditional cuisine served in a variety of traditional events and everyday dishes . As the cooking tradition , rendang thought to have been born since the first traditional Minang held .

Then the art of cooking has grown into the region's Malay culture of other regions ; ranging from Mandailing , Riau , Jambi , to the country side in Negeri Sembilan predominantly immigrants Minangkabau origin . That's why rendang widely recognized both in Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula .

Rendang has a distinguished position in the culture of Minangkabau society . Rendang has its own philosophy for West Sumatra Minangkabau society , namely deliberation and consensus , which departs from four basic ingredients that symbolize integrity Minang community , namely :
  1. Dagiang ( beef ) , is a symbol of " niniak Mamak " ( the leaders of the indigenous tribe ).
  2. Karambia ( coconut ) , a symbol " Cadiak Clever " ( the Property ).
  3. Lado ( chili ) , is a symbol of " Ulema " spicy , firm to teach religious laws.
  4. Cookers ( spice ) , is a symbol of the whole society Minangkabau .
In the tradition of Minangkabau , rendang is a dish to be presented in any special event , such as a variety of Minangkabau traditional ceremonies , receptions, or welcoming the guest of honor . In Malay tradition , both in Riau , Jambi , Medan or the Malay Peninsula , rendang is a special dish that is served in festivity circumcisions, birthdays, weddings , litany , or religious events , such as Idul Fitri and Idul Qurban .
